Blogging Resolutions
Happy New Year, Seattle moms!
As we welcome the new year (with a clear day, nonetheless!), it’s worth spending a few minutes thinking about our blogs and what we want to do with them this year.
Remember, the best resolutions are achievable, measurable, and realistic. They also should inspire and motivate you.
Here’s a list of ideas and questions to get you thinking.
- Define success for your blog. Is it traffic? Comments? Publicity? Impact? Once you clarify in your own mind what you want to accomplish, put together a plan to get you there.
- Identify your ideal blog/life balance. Do you spend too much time blogging? Not enough? Can you make better use of the time that you DO spend blogging?
- How do you feel about the quality and quantity of your posts? Could you post more often or more consistently? Or would your blog benefit from less frequent but higher quality posts?
- Is your blog ready for a redesign? Does the layout and color scheme communicate what your blog is about? Is it too cluttered? Does it stand out?
- Could your blog benefit from a technical overhaul? Is it time for a URL without the .blogspot or .wordpress? Does it load fast enough?
So how about it? What do YOU want to do with your blog in 2008?

Um. Ironic much. I was just starting an entry on the changes to my blog.
I still haven’t figured out all of my resolutions.
Traffic, I get but I don’t get comments, and I don’t know how to get them. I’m also working on how I respond to the comments I do receive.
I want to change the quality of my writing, but I like my made up words, so I don’t want to change it so much that I lose “me”.
I probably blog too much. :/ I have a lot to say, I suppose. And I’ve considered another domain, but I don’t think I’m ready for that commitment again.
I’ve been thinking of this a lot lately. I think I’m going to make my blog a bit more clear, have only a single running theme (sharing traffic) and otherwise, stick with things that hit me and not feel pressure to blog all the time.
I have a few new announcements for the year. Not in small part because of SMB.
World domination!
Nah, actually I think my blogging resolution is to write better. Some of my favorite sites look like crap and seem constantly surprised they have 4000 devoted readers, but they have all that traffic because they’re AMAZING WRITERS. That’s my goal: BE AMAZING. Totally doable.
I agree w/ Maggie. I want to write even better. Great writing isn’t easy though, so maybe I can’t say, “Totally doable” as she did, but I can say, “Will work hard at it.”

As you may or may not know, I have made some blog resolutions.
No twitter!
No feedburner numbers (depressing!)
No meme’s
No NaPoBloMewhatever.
The end.

Geez! All these questions! I just have no answers!! I am torn between wanting to be “authentic” to myself versus manipulating my blog to attract attention/controversy or something else that is really not me.
I want more readers, but only the super-nice kind! That’s reasonable, right?
