I took an amazingly cute video of my son last week. It shows him counting out the change in his piggy bank. The change is for his “Disneyland Fund”. (We’re up to almost $200!) On this video, after he’s done counting, he starts singing a little song he made up about his “Dada” and “Mama”. I’m not ashamed to admit that I watch that 2 minute video no less then ten times during my work day. It helps me get through my day here at the office.
Yesterday The Big Boss walked by my desk and caught me watching the video. “Who is that kid?”, he asked me. I reminded him that it was my kid on the video. “Why are you watching a video of him at work?” I then proceeded to tell him that I actually like my kid. And I miss him when I’m at work. And that watching the video reminds me to not miss him so much while I’m slaving away at the office.
And then The Big Boss walked away, more confused then ever. He just didn’t seem to understand why I would want to watch a video of some silly little toddler singing a song about his Mama when I could be busy writing reports at my desk.
I’ve never thought of myself as one of those silly mom’s. You know, the kind that wear t-shirts with their kid’s pictures on them to work. Or the kind that call the daycare/school/nanny/caregiver a million times a day to see how the latest bowel movement went. Really, I’ve never thought I was like that. But now, now that I’m watching a videos of my kid while at the office, well, I might just be one of those silly mom’s.
Especially when I happened to look up from my computer screen this morning and realize I have no less then eight pictures of my kid at my desk. Oh, and I also have a button of his cute little face of my blazer lapel.

It could be worse, I could have eight pictures of my latest High School Musical crush. Or I could have a daily cat calendar and a tub of left-over brownies. *Cough, cough.*

You should be taking work home with you and thinking about work 24-7! Who cares about your kid, your husband, your cat, your new house, your glorious Tivo? WORKWORKWORK. That’s all that matters in life!

It should be noted that your kid is so stinkin’ cute that even I am tempted to put his picture on my desk!

Wait a second . . . you LIKE your kid? What kind of crazy, child-obsessed mom are you? You’re weird.

Really ? Your boss asked you that ? The nerve.
I have what I like to call my shrine in my office which consists of 11+ pictures of my twins. Oh and we musn’t forget my screen saver. They are on my computer screen larger then life.
You’re right it does help get me through my day.

I love that you’re one of those moms like the rest of us, thinking their kid is the sweetest and the most best. That boss has no soul.

Shoot. I’ve got 7 pictures of my son at my desk and even that doesn’t seem like enough! I also watch videos of him at work very frequently and sometimes if it’s extremely cute I’ll force my co-workers to watch them, too.

I work from home so I have more than enough Kid here. And yet? I still have pictures at my desk. And I never thought I was that mom either.

I am lucky enough that my boss asks to see the videos and pictures I have–but she’s grandma herself…she still gets upset when I take off time when he’s sick, though.
