Cooking Green - Giveaway

Today I want to share a great new idea for cooking for your family in greener way. I’m not talking about leprechauns or even organic vegetables. I’m talking about GreenPans, pans that use 50% less energy in manufacturing than other non-stick pans.

They are also the first line of cookware using a non-stick coating that’s free of toxic chemicals that can be released into your food and into the air. They can cook at temperatures up to 800F without releasing anything harmful. I find this awesome because not only do they meet my criteria for healthier cooking, but they’re also dishwasher safe, something that drives me nuts about my current non-stick cookware.

6 Piece GreenPan Cookware High-resI read about these pans in a magazine this month and was really impressed by them. My naturopath has been trying to get me to stop cooking with Teflon but I was having a hard time finding a solid alternative. At this point I think I’ve found it and as soon as I have enough budget money set aside, I’ll snag a set. It’s not that they’re expensive. In fact, they’re quite reasonably priced. I’ve just been spending too much money buying Cadbury MiniEggs lately. ‘Tis the season.

Good news for you though. This week I’m giving away one 6-piece set of cookware from the good folks at GreenPan. You can get the pans for free and keep your money to buy as many chocolate eggs as you like.

To enter this giveaway, leave a comment on this post and I’ll randomly pick a winner at midnight on Saturday night PST. Good luck and if you win I expect you to let me borrow them!

  17. These sound like a great alternative to teflon, I’ve just been waiting for the opportunity to get my current pans outta here. I’m currently transitioning my household’s diet and cleaning practices to a more natural and healthy one and these would be a great addition to keeping the chemicals away from my kids. Hope I win. : )

  21. Wow. I’ve never heard of these… but I am seriously addicted to my non-stick pans. This would make me so much more comfortable about using them!

But darn that ol’ random number generator - they never seem to pick numbers like 5!

    Posted by lifeasamama | March 20, 2008, 6:14 am
  22. I’m entering because I love cookware, however if I won, would give them to my mother-in-law. She suffered through, and is now cancer free sometime back, and is very leary of any chemicals. She now buys all organic food, and cooks with very little spray oil, etc. to help keep her cancer risk down.

I really would love to give her this gift!

All this to say..pick me or I’ll release those pictures you asked me never to show anyone. ((wink wink))

  31. I would LOVE this. My husband is truly the cook at our house so he would love it, too. Our cookware we got 11 years ago when we got married is starting to lose the lining stuff…hmmm is there a technical name for that? Any way, I’m sure it’s not good for us. Sigh.

    Posted by Jamie | March 20, 2008, 7:24 am

    Posted by mhuff | March 20, 2008, 8:17 am
  55. Finally, a pan that’s not going to kill off a pet bird with toxins. It’s to the point where they have to be in separate room, with separate ventilation just to cook a meal!

  76. I love GREEN! I would like “green” pans.
At my last family reunion my sister offered to help cook dinner. She used a metal spatula and scratched up my brand new big teflon pan. I was pretty mad/sad. But I couldn’t yell at her because I knew she didn’t know she was hurting the pan…She was being so sweet to offer help. So, I just took deep breathes, a step back and reminded myself that it was ONLY a pan and she was my very kind and helpful sister.
Now that’s a stinking long comment. I could have just said “yeah, I want that!” oh well.

    Posted by Kristy | March 20, 2008, 9:09 am

  92. I suspect we’ve been eating some Teflon pepper at my house recently, judging by the scrapes and flaked off bits on my current pans. Except for my one new awesome non-stick pan, but it isn’t dishwasher safe, and it probably isn’t toxin-free or at all green either.
