Exchange your polycarbonate bottles for new BPA-free ones at Babies R Us

I got an email that Babies R Us is doing a bottle exchange and called this morning to confirm.

This is a great deal if you’re looking to upgrade your bottles to something that’s absolutely safe and free of yucky toxic stuff.  Kudos to Babies R Us for doing this (the bottles haven’t actually been recalled; so they’re eating the cost).

Here are the details:

  • Bring your polycarbonate bottles (Avent, Dr. Brown’s) to the service desk at Babies R Us and they will exchange them with BPA-free bottles (Medela, Born Free, the new BPA-free Dr. Brown’s, etc.)
  • This is not a one-for-one exchange. Basically they will calculate the value of the bottles that you bring in, and give you an equal value exchange. Since the BPA-free bottles are typically more expensive than the toxic ones, you will get less bottles in exchange (or you can pay the difference).
  • You do not need original packaging or receipt.  Bottles that you’re exchanging should be complete with all the parts and be products that Babies R Us currently sells (i.e. no bottles from 1970).
  • Bottles only; no nipples, sippy cups, or accessories.

Currently there is no official end-date to this offer; it is something that Babies R Us is doing in the name of customer service but they may stop at any time. You can call before you go to confirm if they’re still doing it; (425)672-3220.

  1. I returned my bottles for store credit at Toys R Us three weeks ago. My BPA free bottles were cheaper. I went with glass Evenflo bottles. Three of them in a package for $5, and (extra bonus points) they fit with my Medela pump. ;-)

  2. I hope they have that here too. So far I haven’t heard any advisory yet in the local news here. :)

  3. I just did this yesterday! I took back (8) 9oz Avents and (10) 4oz Avents, and they gave me store credit for the NEW cost of bottles, even though I had gotten a year’s worth of use out of them already. $87!! BRU is probably eating their shirt on this one, but I give them all the credit in the world for being proactive.

  8. I went today to the Winston-Salem, NC store to exchange the bottles. They did NOT want to exchange them at first since I did NOT have a receipt (who keeps receipts for bottles?) because they wanted to know if they were purchased within the past 90 days. Finally, they checked with a manager who finally said I could exchange them…bottle for bottle, $ for $. Sounds like others stores are nicer to return them!

  9. Has anyone tried exchanging them at the Tacoma or Tukwila locations?
