Quiet, Please

I went on my first meditation retreat last month. I saw Sharon Salzberg speak, and spent two days not speaking myself.
Let me clarify — this was a non-residential retreat, meaning there were no overnight stays. It was more like a 9 to 5 thing.
So, I didn’t speak for the hours I was at the retreat. [...]

“Hafa adai!” from Mona of kirida.com!

Our first interviewee in the Getting to Know Youuuuuu series is Ramona from kirida.com. Let’s all say “hi” or “hafa adai” and learn more about her.
1. Where do you live and how long have you lived there? Where did you grow up? My husband and I live in West Seattle with [...]

The Bloggy Chiropractor, Step 1: Take two weeks off

This is step 1 in The Bloggy Chiropractor 3-step program, in which we work on correcting our blog/life balance.
For the first part of this journey, the bloggy chiropractor prescribes that you take a MANDATED blog vacation of a minimum of 2 weeks.
WHAT!?!  you may gasp, TWO WEEKS?! I CAN’T DO THAT!
I’m here to tell you that [...]

The Bloggy Chiropractor 3-Step Program

I confessed in my last post that I have been feeling a serious need for a readjustment.  Something to get me and my bloggy ways back into balance.
Some of you have told me that you’re right there with me.  That you feel bogged down by blogging.  Overwhelmed.  Not sure what to do next.
And so, I’m kicking off a [...]

Getting to know youuuuuu, SMB members!

Calling all Seattle Mom Bloggers!
As some of you may know, we are going to start a feature here to learn a little about our members, one by one, in the form of mini-interviews.
Maybe we’ll post them weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly…. We’ll play that part by ear (I’m not Marsha Brady after all!).
If you want [...]

That’s me in the spotlight losing my religion (Alternate title: I went to BlogHer and almost decided to quit blogging)

Every year after BlogHer, two or three big-name bloggers and a whole bunch of not-so-big (but every bit as important) bloggers throw in the towel and quietly slip away into the obscurity of real life.

The rest of us bloggers howl in surprise, throw our hands in the air and gasp CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! while deep down inside we’re wondering if next year that will be us.

This year, amidst the chaotic BlogHer swagalicious love fest, I finally got it.

In which a career woman becomes a stay-at-home-mom for a summer

I’ve been thinking, for a while now, that it might be nice to have one day off each week where I could spend it prancing around town with my Stay-At-Home-Mom friends.  I’ve longed to meet them at the park for playdates. Or at the zoo.  Or the aquarium.  Or their house.  Or my house.  Anything.
I [...]

Keeping up with the Tans (and the Wongs and the Lees and…)

Like many of you, I keep in touch with my family and friends using Facebook. Malaysia is a fairly “with it” country when it comes to technology (it is the only space the government has promised never to censor as part of its commitment to foreign investors and so far, it’s keeping its word) and [...]

The driver on the bus goes, “Fold that stroller!”

While riding the #17 earlier this week, I saw two different parents handle the same situation – how to take a stroller on the bus – very differently.
I can’t seem to find an official stroller policy on Metro’s website, although from what I’ve heard from drivers, the policy is that the child must be [...]

Kids and Allowances: How Much is Enough?

Raise your hands if you, like me, are completely befuddled by allowances?
Way back when my kids started doing regular chores (let’s say, around the ages of 5 and 6 for the boys), I figured it was high time to offer them up some kind of incentive for their help around the house.  Even though their [...]
